Wiper arm upgrade?

Postby theholycow » Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:04 am

In winter weather conditions it is useful to park with the wipers "popped", folded away from the windshield up in the air as if you were changing the blade. This prevents them from becoming frozen to the glass. My 1980 LeSabre's wipers do not play that game; there is no hinge in the arm, they only flex enough to get a new blade on and they certainly don't stay up.

What model has compatible arms in the appropriate size, with that feature? I suspect I can just measure mine, look at the attachment, and hit up the GM section of the junkyard with success, but I figured I could ask first. Also want to do it for my wife's 2003 Sunfire if anyone knows about the Sunfire/Cavalier.

I don't think this will work because of the shape of the hoods on these cars. At least on the Caprices, the wipers end up under the overhang of the bag edge of the hood. Neat idea. But I don't think it will work.

I know it won't work when the wipers are parked, but I think it'll work if I bring them all the way up first. Folding arms don't hinge at the bolt, they hinge a few inches out...
