On most automotive-subject web forums it is usually best to host the photos on a photo-hosting site and embed them in a post using [IMG] codes.

For anonymous hosting I like http://pictureHoster.info which will provide you with nice [IMG] codes to paste directly into a post. Upload files and you are provided with a number of codes for different purposes; copy and paste the one that says "Hotlink for Forum".

To see what it looks like while composing a message, click Quote on this message and you'll see the code. When you paste the code from the site it will have some additional [URL] codes; I manually trimmed them here so you can see what's important. The [URL] codes are there so you can click the photo and be directed to http://pictureHoster.info; theirs are fine, but some other sites include mildly obnoxious links.

For non-anonymous hosting, where your files get stored in your own account, I used to like Photobucket but a recent update makes their site annoying to work with. Picasaweb and Flickr aren't made for forum embedding but they can do the job. At the moment I can't think of a really good site to recommend, though I know there should be plenty. I guess you could check out Photobucket and see if it's less annoying for you than it is for me. It does still provide [IMG] codes, at least, saving you a couple steps.

That doesn't work. It's just a link to Photobucket, not to an image on Photobucket.

While viewing an image, look for this:

Your set of options may differ but you need the one that says "IMG code". If you don't have that one, you can adjust your Photobucket settings to show it, or I can tell you how to use the "Direct link" instead.

Then paste it into the forum like this:

Almost there! Those direct links will work.

When you go to paste each of those direct links, instead of pasting it directly into the message, click the "Img" button just above the message compose box. That will automatically type the [IMG] tags that surround those direct links to turn them into displayed photos.
