|
|
Can someone please look under the rear bumper of their Caprice/Impala sedan and tell me if there's any type of reinforcement for the side bumper fillers? I know I have my bumper centered but it seems the right side plastic filler panel is tweaked up inside the turn of the bumper and breaks. I bought the car with no fillers. The first one from ebay broke within a week but I figured it had a hairline crack in it so no big deal. The second was a NOS part that broke after three weeks in the same spot as the first one. It's not a pressing issue but the triangular hole in the plastic bothers me.
BTW, the car has new rear body bushings and a frame mounted trailer hitch so I don't think the bumper is moving around. _________________ Me hid big dings wid da hamma.

as far as i know all bumper fillers are just held in with 3 (i think) screws on the body with no other reinforcement. the original ones on all of my b-bodies have been soft and flexible, i can't picture them cracking or getting holes poked in them. sounds like you're buying old brittle parts. perhaps it depends on what climate the parts you are buying are from. _________________ 1977 4 dr Impala |

Yeah, both parts were pretty brittle. The ebay one was used off a car that I lucked out was the same color. The other was from gmpartsdirect.com but was NOS out of a box that looked 20 years old with no plastic bag or anything. Just thrown in the box. Thanks for the help. I'll have to deal with it. _________________ Me hid big dings wid da hamma.

Bassnx answered your question, and I took a look under the car and snapped a few pictures for you for reference I guess. As far as I can tell, it's held in by 3 screws. There is nothign wrong with my filler pieces so the pictures should be a decent reference. I hope these help.

What's that bar sticking out from the screws? I don't have that on mine. Maybe that's what I'm missing? _________________ Me hid big dings wid da hamma.

my guess is that it keeps the filler panel from moving around as much which could by why you could be having issues. I have no idea man. _________________ 1988 Chevy Caprice Classic Owner.
